Process:

My approach is organized into a very specific progression. A back-and-forth transpires until all stages are fully finished.

The first task is establishing mass. This is the being saying, “I am here. I occupy this space.” Marks are made and erased. Vacancy is removed and replaced. No other element of the painting begins at this time.

The construction of the background to foreground immediately ensues. The distant must be fully developed before introducing the proximate. Breaks and continuities in line lay the foundation for perspective.

Movement and color determine the painting’s mood(s). Emotion manifests itself through the artist’s hand gestures and pigment choices.

Because the human eye is drawn to opposites, one must highlight contrasts: between chaos and order, obscurity and illumination, the finished and unfinished.

There comes a time in creation when one must move beyond the visible.

As brushstrokes are made faces arise.

Eyes appear as lights in darkness, particles in space, windows on walls.

As features are exaggerated, the Secret becomes clearer and clearer. The title tells.
